About the Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
The 1983 Monte Carlo SS marked the return of the Super Sport badge to the model after a twelve-year hiatus. Developed to improve Chevrolet's competitiveness in NASCAR, it featured a distinct 'slanted' aerodynamic nose, a rear spoiler, and the High Output (L69) version of the 305 cubic-inch V8. While performance was modest by modern standards, its stiffened F41 suspension and classic G-body proportions made it a definitive American performance icon of the 1980s. It remains highly collectable as one of the last full-frame, rear-wheel-drive carburetted coupes.
