About the BYD F0
The BYD F0 is a subcompact city car that gained international notoriety for its striking resemblance to the first-generation Toyota Aygo. Launched in 2008 as the F1 before a name change to avoid conflict with Formula One, it served as BYD's entry-level offering in emerging markets across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Powered by a small 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine, it was designed for urban efficiency rather than performance. While its build quality and safety ratings were frequently criticised, its low price point made it a significant volume seller for BYD during the brand's early expansion phase.
