About the Alpina B12 5.7 E31
Based on the BMW 850CSi, the Alpina B12 5.7 represents the absolute pinnacle of the E31-generation 8 Series. Alpina bored the S70 V12 to 5.7 litres and added a bespoke intake, crankshaft, and stainless steel exhaust to produce 416 PS, making it the first Alpina to officially break the 300 km/h barrier. It is visually distinguished by a unique carbon-fibre bonnet featuring a central NACA duct and cooling louvres, alongside staggered 18-inch multi-spoke wheels. With only 57 units produced, it is one of the rarest and most desirable modern classics from the Buchloe manufacturer.

Alpina B12 5.7 E31 fun facts
- The B12 5.7 was the only Alpina model offered with the 'Shift-Tronic' electronic clutchless manual system, though most collectors prefer the pure 6-speed manual.
- Its carbon-fibre hood was a radical addition for a luxury GT in 1992, designed specifically to manage the heat of the enlarged 5.7-litre V12.
- While BMW, Mercedes, and Audi were limited to 155 mph, Alpina purposefully engineered the B12 5.7 to reach a true 186 mph (300 km/h).
