About the Tyrrell 019
Harvey Postlethwaite and Jean-Claude Migeot designed the 019 as an evolution of the 018, raising the nose so that more air could flow under the flat floor to the rear diffuser. To keep the front wing close to the ground they hung it beneath the nose in a distinctive inverted-V, anhedral shape. Powered by a Hart-tuned 3.5-litre Cosworth DFR V8 of around 620 bhp and running on Pirelli tyres, the car scored on its debut at the 1990 San Marino Grand Prix with Jean Alesi, who then finished second at Monaco. Results were modest after that, but rival teams copied the high nose and it had become standard design by 1996.
