About the Toleman TG184

Designed by Rory Byrne and Pat Symonds, the TG184 replaced the TG183B from the 1984 French Grand Prix at Dijon and used Brian Hart's four-cylinder 415T turbo, rated at about 600 bhp. In only its second race, Ayrton Senna climbed from 13th on the grid at a rain-soaked Monaco and had caught leader Alain Prost when the race was stopped early, leaving him second. Senna added third places at the British and Portuguese Grands Prix, qualifying third at Estoril, the car's best grid position. Johnny Cecotto, Stefan Johansson and Pierluigi Martini also raced the TG184 before the TG185 replaced it.
