About the Brawn GP BGP 001
Begun by Honda Racing and completed after Ross Brawn bought the team and renamed it Brawn GP, the BGP 001 was originally known as the Honda RA109K. Its double diffuser was protested by rival teams but ruled legal by the FIA International Court of Appeal in April 2009, while adapting the car to Mercedes FO 108W engines meant removing six inches from the rear, compromising its centre of gravity. Jenson Button won six times in the first half of the season and Rubens Barrichello added two later wins, giving Brawn the drivers' and constructors' championships. Only three chassis were built, and Button raced the same one, BGP 001/02, in every session from Australia to Brazil, so he won the title in the oldest car on the grid.
